Citizen Science & Social Justice in Your Community

Connecting hard science and public policy, will provide three powerhouse days of professional development for teachers in grades 5-12, with breakouts by grade level clusters. Connect with industry-leading science research professionals from Mt. Sinai Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit and learn advocacy skills from leaders of CUNY School of Law's Center for Urban Environmental Reform. Participants will learn to use New York City to make authentic place-based connections and will come away with citizen science opportunities for students. 

Participating Teachers will be able to:

  • Integrate Education for Sustainability (EfS) concepts into core curriculum
  • Understand environmental health factors affecting child health and learning
  • Use NYC and your school neighborhood as a living laboratory for place-based learning
  • Engage students in an inquiry-based learning process
  • Develop citizen science opportunities for your students
